Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 is proud to announced that Carleton Place Jr Canadians ’03 born forward Bill Gourgon is the winner of the 2019-20 CCHL2 Prospect of the Year award.

Gourgon, 17, is in his first full season with the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians after playing in 10 games in last year’s playoff run with the Tier 2 club as a call up. This season, he ranks 11th among rookies in goals (17), 4th in assists (32) and 5th among rookies in points with 49. Carleton Place Jr. Canadians General Manager Norm Racine has been really happy of the development of Bill Gourgon this season.

“Bill (Gourgon) is a hard worker both on the ice and in the gym,” said Racine. “He regularly practices with both our club and the Jr. A club.”

Gourgon has been only called up to one game this season and that was on January 19th against Brockville. Last season he played with the U18 Carleton Place Canadians and had 16 goals, to go along with 13 assists and 29 points while playing in 45 games last year before being called up to the Tier 2 club for their playoff run.

“Bill had a great playoff run last year and we expect the same this year. He has been a key performer all year and will be a force in the playoffs for sure,” said Racine on his playoff run last year.

Gourgon had three goals and three assists in 10 games in the CCHL Tier 2 playoffs last season and played in three call up games last year. He collected his first CCHL2 goal during those three games.

The Carleton Place Jr. Canadians are in action tonight when they take on the Westport Rideaus in the final regular season game. The winner of this game will take first place in the Richardson Division.
