Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League and Ottawa Jr. Senators are pleased to announce that ’97 Goaltender Connor Hicks has committed to CIS Dalhousie University for the 2018-19 season.
Hicks, 20, started the season with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the OHL before being released and acquired by the Jr. Senators on October 1st. The Kanata, Ontario native currently holds a 1.60 GAA and an .946 SV% over the course of 13 starts since joining Ottawa.
Connor did a lot of research on different schools in the CIS circuit and believed that Dalhousie University in Halifax was the best fit for him.
“I love the city of Halifax and I’ve been there a lot of times” said Hicks. “They ended up calling me and offering me a spot on the team next year and I took it in a heartbeat”.
The four year OHL veteran split time between the Belleville Bulls, Hamilton Bulldogs, Flint Firebirds and Greyhounds which made the Tigers choice to commit the young net minder that much easier.
“They came to watch me play this year and that’s when I found out that they were interested in me so when they offered me a spot I took a few days to think about it but made my decision to commit pretty quickly” explained Hicks.
Despite a successful Junior Hockey career, Connor did take schooling into account and is excited about a lot of the programs that the University offers.
“I looked at a lot of different programs and I’m looking to become a police officer” noted Hicks. “I’m probably going to take a bachelor of arts and a minor in law but I’m also really excited to go play hockey there”.
The 6’4 goaltender will join former CCHL Tier 1 & Tier 2 grads Reid Murphy and Jonathan Cyr on the team next season.
