January 11/26 | Renfrew Rallies, Winchester Holds Home Ice, Arnprior Surges in Athens

 

Ottawa, ON – Sunday’s EOJHL action delivered comeback grit, special-teams swings, and another strong showing from a Richardson Division powerhouse. Renfrew erased an early deficit on the road, Winchester outlasted Embrun in a back-and-forth affair, and Arnprior pulled away late in Athens to continue their push at the top of the standings.

Renfrew 4, Richmond 3

Richmond jumped out early on home ice, opening the scoring at 2:37 of the first when Dylan Cutts finished a feed from Jacob Warnes. Renfrew answered quickly on the power play as Parker Evans tied the game at 5:46 with help from Ricky Wilson and Liam Haggerty.

The Royals pushed back with a pair of power-play goals later in the frame. Ramsey Stretch restored the Richmond lead at 8:10, set up by Cameron McGarry and Ethan Fleming, before Nicholas Milbury made it 3–1 at 12:43 off passes from Cooper Moore and Evan Clark.

Renfrew began chipping away late in the second, as Liam Haggerty cut the deficit to one at 17:29, assisted by Nathan Pederson and Colton Vereyken. The Timberwolves completed the comeback in the third period. Mannix Hart tied the game at 15:00, finishing a play with Haggerty and Ian Burnett, and with just 24 seconds remaining, Ricky Wilson buried the game-winner from William Herrick.

Dylan Elliott turned aside 27 of 30 shots to earn the win for Renfrew. Richard Unger made 37 saves for Richmond in defeat. Renfrew improves to 16-15-1-1, while Richmond slips to 14-17-0-2.

Winchester 6, Embrun 4 

Embrun struck first when Garrett Maronese scored at 3:04 of the opening period off a feed from Enrick Girard, but Winchester answered minutes later as Joshua Marcos tied the game at 6:50, assisted by Zach Pereira.

The Panthers regained the lead at 12:09 when Wyatt Leblanc converted a chance set up by Tomy Lariviere and Justin Raymond. Once again, the Hawks responded late in the period, with Marcos scoring his second of the night at 19:02, assisted by Vincent Anderson and Asher Goldfarb.

Winchester took control in the second on the power play. Isaac Bradley put the Hawks ahead at 13:37, finishing a passing sequence with Kaylen Connell and Trevor Tangalin. Bradley struck again just 55 seconds into the third, extending the lead with help from Daniel McDowell.

Embrun kept pushing back. Justin Raymond scored at 6:19 to bring the Panthers within one, but Ryan Ross answered for Winchester at 9:00, restoring a two-goal cushion off feeds from McDowell and Tangalin. Raymond added his second of the night at 18:11, before Trevor Tangalin sealed the game with an empty-net goal at 19:54.

Jacob Turpin made 32 saves to secure the win for Winchester. Embrun’s Sebastien Bourgeau stopped 39 shots in the loss. Winchester moves to 15-17-1-0, while Embrun falls to 7-16-4-5.

Arnprior 6, Athens 3

Athens opened the scoring late in the first period when Alex McGlade finished a play from Zachary White and Michael Donovan at 15:15.

Arnprior answered early in the second, as Andrew Mark scored his first of the season at 2:00. Athens briefly regained momentum when McGlade struck again at 6:35, scoring short-handed off assists from Parker Kealey and Alex Tornberg.

That goal seemed to spark the Packers. On the power play at 9:36, Ethan Smith tied the game, converting a setup from Brendan Lynch and Jackson Taylor. Arnprior took the lead later in the period when Cameron Sheppard scored on the man advantage at 15:53, assisted by Smith and Ian Kennedy.

Arnprior pulled away in the third. Carter Downs scored twice on the power play, first at 7:36 off a feed from Sheppard, and again at 10:35, finishing a pass from Smith. Athens got one back at 13:08 when McGlade completed his hat trick with help from Garritt Palmer and Matthew Mines, but Sheppard closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal at 19:28.

Tristan Hodgson stopped 24 of 27 shots for Arnprior. Nicholas Periard made 36 saves in the loss for Athens. Arnprior improves to 25-7-0-0, while Athens drops to 11-16-4-0.
