Ottawa, Ontario – Originally, there we’re five games on a busy Saturday night in CCHL Tier 2 with three Martin Division matchups and two Richardson Division games. The only game that got postponed was Winchester vs Char-Lan. It’s the second time this season that these two teams couldn’t play due to weather conditions.
Ottawa West 3, Casselman 2
It was an entertaining hockey game for the fans to watch on Saturday. The Golden Knights were able to win their fifth straight game and have won inside the Jr Brisson Complex for the third time in CCHL2 history if you count the playoffs.
Sean Kearns netted the game winner on a breakaway, after a good stretch pass was made from Stef Mellios in his own zone. Kearns had 1 G / 1 A during the contest while Gallivan and Dempster each tallied one goal on the power play. Ottawa West’s power play was 2-for-4 in the game.
Meanwhile, the Vikings struggles continues as they drop their sixth straight game and are 0-5-1 during this tough losing streak, if you count the one OT loss. The positive side was Casselman, capitalizing on the power play by going 2-for-2 with goals from Gagnier and Drouin. Shots were 24-23 for the Golden Knights and Will McEvoy picks up his 10th consecutive win as a starter by making 21 saves.
Westport 6, Athens 2
The Rideaus were able to score three unanswered goals to put the game away in the third after leading 3-2. Blake Kettyle leads the away offensively two goals and three assists for five points. It’s his second 5+ point game of the season. His last one came against Alexandria on October 12th where he had four goals and three assists.
Owen Watson (2 G / 1 A) and Brock Boisclair (1 G / 2 A) also collect three points in Westport’s fourth straight win. Westport’s power play was good in the game by going 3-for-7 while Athens man advantage was 0-for-6. Nolan Brien and Kohle McCulloch netted one goal in the Athens loss.
Shots were 44-30 in favour of Westport. Kaleb Griffin makes 28 saves for his 10th win of the season and has won two straight games as a starter.
Embrun 4, Alexandria 2
The Panthers were able to snap a two game losing streak and kickoff the new year with a big win. Tristian Taillefer extended his point streak to two games with 1 G / 1 A which included the game winner. Beaudoin, Drevniok and Gregoire each netted one goal for Embrun.
Pozzebon and Robertson each tally one goal in another tough Alexandria loss. Shots were 36-31 in favour of Embrun. Marco Latassa made 29 saves for his second win as a Panther.
Carleton Place 4, Renfrew 2
Carleton Place has now won three of their last four games and have also won two in a row. Michael Patchell leads his team with two goals while Marshall, Hawkins, Holmes and Gourgon each collect two points. Patchell extended his point streak to two games and Marshall’s point streak is at three games.
Zach Martin netted two goals in a tough Renfrew loss. CP outshot Renfrew 33-23. The Timberwolves have also loss five of their last six games and are currently on a two game losing streak.
