Morning Recap | Ottawa West and Casselman get key wins on Thursday night

Ottawa, Ontario – The Ottawa West Golden Knights were in action taking on the Richmond Royals in an entertaining match-up which needed OT and Brockville was at the Jr Brisson Complex taking on Casselman as that game came down to the final minute in regulation.

F/OT | Ottawa West 4, Richmond 3

The Golden Knights were able to survive a late comeback from Richmond in the third as Ryan Mann got a power play marker to tie the game which needed overtime. Stef Mellios was able to end the night on a high note by scoring his first OT winner of his CCHL Tier 2 career and also collects his 3rd game winning goal of his CCHL2 career.

Michael Gallivan also collected two goals and Jared Brush had a multi-point game with 1 G / 1 A. Sam Brown was also good on the back end by tallying two assists and Sam Edwards added three assists. He has four assists in two games with the Golden knights to start the year. Ottawa West extends their winning streak to 11 games.

On the positive side for Richmond, Josh Lacelle made 21 saves in the first period to keep his team in the game. At the end of the night, Lacelle turned in a really good performance by making 49 saves. Richmond also had Willem Brandt getting a goal in front of the net and Connor Gilchrist scoring from centre ice. The Royals pick up a point and are 4-1-2 in their last seven games.

Casselman 4, Brockville 3

After the Tikis missed a 2-on-0 opportunity on the final minute in regulation, Casselman comes back on the attack to get the final goal from their Captain Jason Cossette with 20.6 seconds left in the game. The Vikings pick up their 17th win of the season and are 3-2 in their last five games.

Shawn Patterson was able net his second two-goal game of the season. He now has 8 goals and 25 points in 19 games this year. Francois Drouin collected his 15th of the season by scoring in the second period. Nicholas Campbell was excellent in between the pipes by making 29 saves.

Tyler Toomey extended his goal streak to seven games and Brad Arnott also had his goal streak extended to three games. Glazer (1 G / 1 A), Goerger (2 A) and White (2 A) each tally two points in another tough loss for Brockville. Shots were 38-32 in favor of Casselman.
