Athens 4, Richmond 1
Ottawa, ON – The Athens Aeros continued their recent surge on Tuesday night, riding a dominant performance from Cam McNulty to a 4–1 win over the Richmond Royals.
Richmond struck first in the final minute of the opening period when Nicholas Milbury buried his fourth of the season off a setup from Nevyn Trenholm and Tyson MacCoubrey, giving the Royals a 1–0 lead at the break. But after that, it was all Athens.
Just 3:34 into the second, McNulty tied the game, kickstarting what would become one of his best outings of the year. He added his second of the night on the power play at 11:13, finishing off a feed from Rylan Boyer and Garritt Palmer to put the Aeros in front for good.
Athens kept pushing in the third, extending their lead when Rylan Boyer converted on another power play at 7:58. McNulty then completed the hat trick at 17:45, burying his sixth of the season off a pass from Parker Kealey, sealing the victory in front of the home crowd.
Between the pipes, Nicholas Periard was sharp, stopping all 16 shots he faced in the third and finishing a perfect second half after allowing just one goal early. Richmond’s Richard Unger made 33 saves in the loss.
With the win, Athens improves to 5-12-4-0, while Richmond slides to 8-8-0-1.
