November 6/25 | Brigade Edge Golden Knights in Overtime; Casselman and Winchester Earn Victories

 

Ottawa, ON – The EOJHL featured three competitive matchups Thursday night, highlighted by an overtime thriller in Ottawa West where Glengarry edged the Golden Knights. Casselman rolled past Arnprior on home ice, while Winchester used a strong third period to take down Smiths Falls.

 

Glengarry 3, Ottawa West 2 (OT)

It was a statement win for the Glengarry Brigade, who knocked off the league powerhouse Ottawa West Golden Knights 3-2 in overtime.

After a scoreless opening period, Glengarry jumped ahead in the second with goals from Brady Bell and Hayden Mader — the latter picking up his 10th of the season. Ottawa West responded with Thomas Dickey’s 20th of the year to cut the deficit in half, and Connor Weido tied the game early in the third with his fifth, forcing overtime.

In the extra frame, rookie forward Kale Grant played hero, scoring his first of the season at 4:14 to give the Brigade the win. Goaltender Maxime Mayer was outstanding, stopping 52 of 54 shots, while Dustin Riff made 33 saves for Ottawa West in the loss.

With the victory, Glengarry improved to 10-4-2-0, while Ottawa West fell to 12-1-2-0.

Casselman 5, Arnprior 1

The Casselman Vikings continued their strong play with a convincing 5-1 home win over the Arnprior Packers.

Makail Poole-Fournier opened the scoring midway through the first and later added an assist, while Joshua Marcos and Jeremy Bessette each found the back of the net as Casselman built a 3-1 lead through two periods.

Cédric Ouimet and Alexis Lafrance added third-period insurance, with Lafrance posting a two-point night. Skyler Beks also had two assists, while goaltender Myles Boudreau was solid, stopping 22 of 23 shots for the win. Arnprior’s lone goal came from Colin Lalonde, with assists from Alex Oster and Ben Hiel.

Casselman improved to 11-2-0-0, while Arnprior dropped to 8-5-0-0.

Winchester 4, Smiths Falls 2

The Winchester Hawks rallied late to secure a 4-2 road win over the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears.

Andrew Carter opened the scoring for Winchester, but Smiths Falls responded in the second with power-play and even-strength goals from Brody Nielissen and Andrew Hopley to take a 2-1 lead.

Liam Monaghan tied the game late in the second before Kyler Leboutillier’s third of the season put Winchester ahead in the third. Monaghan sealed the win with his second of the night into an empty net.

Kaylen Connell had two assists for the Hawks, and goaltender Jacob Turpin stopped 24 of 26 shots for the win. Cole King made 28 saves for Smiths Falls in defeat.

Winchester improved to 6-9-0-0, while Smiths Falls fell to 7-9-0-0.
