Ottawa, ON – Three close matchups highlighted Sunday’s EOJHL schedule, as Perth edged Richmond in a shootout, Glengarry continued their strong run with a road win over Athens, and Arnprior battled back to defeat Embrun in extra time.
Perth 4, Richmond 3 (SO)
The Perth Blue Wings pulled off a thrilling comeback in Richmond, scoring twice in the final minute before sealing a 4-3 shootout victory over the Royals. Kaius Newberry led the charge with two goals and an assist, including the late game-tying marker with 38 seconds left. Nathan Emery forced overtime just 25 seconds later and later added a shootout goal, while Max Shewfelt also scored in the tiebreaker to clinch the win.
For Richmond, Dylan Cutts scored twice in the third period to give the Royals a 3-1 lead before Perth’s late rally. Owen Coady added a power-play goal in the second. Jake Dignard stood tall for Perth, making 53 saves to earn the win, while Richard Unger turned aside 46 shots in a strong performance for Richmond.
Perth improves to 5-7-1-1, while Richmond falls to 7-7-0-1.
Glengarry 4, Athens 1
The Glengarry Brigade put together a complete effort on the road, defeating the Athens Aeros 4-1 behind goals from four different scorers. Carter Rolland opened the scoring in the first, followed by tallies from Zach Boltz, Mike Fournier, and Kaden Myre. Myre finished with a goal and an assist, while Fournier and Rolland each added two-point efforts.
Alex Tornberg scored the lone goal for Athens late in the third on the power play. Goaltender Maxime Mayer turned away 17 of 18 shots for Glengarry, while Marshall Greig made 31 saves in the loss for Athens.
Glengarry improves to 11-5-2-0, and Athens drops to 3-11-4-0.
Arnprior 3, Embrun 2 (SO)
The Arnprior Packers came from behind to take down the Embrun Panthers 3-2 in a shootout at home. Down 2-0 late in the second, Ian Kennedy sparked the comeback with a power-play goal early in the third before setting up Cameron Sheppard for another power-play marker to tie the game.
Cory Hunter and Xavier Boulanger provided the offense for Embrun, with Boulanger finishing the night with a goal and an assist. After overtime solved nothing, Carter Scott scored the lone goal of the shootout to lift Arnprior to victory.
Tristan Hodgson stopped 34 shots for Arnprior in the win, while Sebastien Bourgeau was solid for Embrun, making 45 saves.
Arnprior improves to 10-5-0-0, while Embrun moves to 3-8-3-4.
