Ottawa, ON – Friday night featured a full slate of EOJHL action with five games on tap. Glengarry exploded offensively in Arnprior, Athens pulled off a shootout win in Perth, Richmond edged Renfrew in an overtime thriller, Carleton Place rallied in Embrun, and Winchester secured a strong home victory over Smiths Falls.
Glengarry 8, Arnprior 4
The Glengarry Brigade turned in one of their most dominant offensive performances of the young season, defeating the Arnprior Packers 8-4 on the road.
Matheason Cameron opened the scoring less than four minutes in and later added another late in the second to finish with a two-goal night. Hayden Mader and Joshua Baker also struck in the opening frame, giving Glengarry a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Arnprior pushed back in the second with goals from Jackson Taylor and Cameron Sheppard, but Matt Lavigne’s two tallies restored the momentum for the Brigade.
Liam Gray and Mike Fournier added insurance markers in the third, while Taylor and Brendan Lynch scored for Arnprior to close the gap. Goaltender Maxime Mayer stopped 24 shots in the win, while Nathan Carlson and Carter Zomers combined for 26 saves for the Packers.
Athens 4, Perth 3 (SO)
The Athens Aeros picked up a hard-earned two points on the road, defeating the Perth Blue Wings 4-3 in a shootout.
It was a back-and-forth opening period with Max Shewfelt striking early for Perth before Cam McNulty and Cameron Kelly answered for Athens. Owen Adams tied it late in the frame to send the teams to the intermission even. In the second, Nolan Tym gave Athens the lead before Shewfelt’s second of the night tied it once again in the third.
Neither team could break through in overtime, sending the game to a shootout where Garritt Palmer and Finnley Panciuk both scored for Athens, while Carson Garrod shut the door on both Perth shooters to seal the victory. Garrod finished with 39 saves, while Jake Dignard made 31 stops for Perth.
Richmond 5, Renfrew 4 (OT)
The Richmond Royals came out on top in a wild back-and-forth game in Renfrew, defeating the Timberwolves 5-4 in overtime.
Enrick Girard got Richmond going just 46 seconds into the contest and later added another on the power play in the second period. Will Herrick responded for Renfrew in the opening period. Nevyn Trenholm and Kevin Zhu also found the back of the net to give the Royals a 4-2 lead through 40 minutes as Logan Fleury scored for the Timberwolves. Renfrew stormed back in the third with goals from Nathan Pederson and Preston Charron to force extra time.
Joel Mullen played the hero, burying the overtime winner at 3:17 of the extra frame. Richard Unger made 28 saves for Richmond, while Dawson Zadorozny turned aside 27 shots for Renfrew.
Carleton Place 5, Embrun 4
The Carleton Place Jr. Canadians used a big third period to take down the Embrun Panthers 5-4 on the road.
Zachaël Mongeon led the way early for Embrun with two goals in the opening 23 minutes, while Yanick Blanchard added a shorthanded marker to make it 3-2 early in the third. Carleton Place responded quickly, with Byron Box scoring twice on the power play and Xavier Goussis netting the go-ahead marker midway through the final frame. Goussis finished with a pair of goals, Brady Barnes added a single, while Noah Green tallied three assists in the comeback win.
Sebastien Janisch stood tall for the Jr. Canadians with 45 saves, while Jackson Howell made 23 stops for Embrun.
Winchester 4, Smiths Falls 2
The Winchester Hawks picked up a solid home win, defeating the Smiths Falls Jr. Bears 4-2.
Vincent Anderson and Lucas Mailhot gave Winchester an early 2-0 lead in the first period, but Smiths Falls responded in the second with goals from Nick Colson and Caiden Deshaw to keep things tight. Jackson Hill and Daniel McDowell restored the Hawks’ advantage, and they locked things down defensively in the third to secure the win.
Jimmy Boyd made 23 saves for Winchester, while Cole King turned aside 34 shots in the loss for Smiths Falls.
