Ottawa, ON – Friday night in the EOJHL featured a busy four-game slate, with Ottawa extending its strong start to the season, Glengarry holding firm on home ice, Arnprior mounting a comeback victory in overtime, and Smiths Falls picking up a key road win.
Smiths Falls 4, Perth 2
Smiths Falls battled back from an early deficit to earn a 4-2 win on the road over Perth. Max Shewfelt opened the scoring for the Blue Wings midway through the first, but Aidan Conroy answered less than two minutes later to even the game at 1-1.
Matthew Mines gave Smiths Falls the lead early in the second, and Nico Ilias added a power-play goal in the third to give the Bears some breathing room. Matthew Bronsard pulled Perth back within one late, but Andrew Hopley sealed it with an empty-netter in the final minute.
Cole King was solid in goal with 38 saves for the win, while Alex Beaulne made 29 stops for Perth. Smiths Falls improves to 5-6-0-0, while Perth drops to 3-4-0-1.
Arnprior 4, Embrun 3 (OT)
Arnprior stormed back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a thrilling 4-3 overtime win over Embrun. The Panthers came out strong with first-period goals from Garrett Maronese and Zachaël Mongeon — the latter shorthanded — before Cameron Sheppard got the Packers on the board late in the frame on the power play.
Remi Gendron extended Embrun’s lead early in the second, but Arnprior responded in the third with a power-play goal from Jackson Taylor and the equalizer from Devin McCarthy with under four minutes remaining. In overtime, Ethan Smith played the hero, scoring the game-winner at 3:33 to complete the comeback.
Nathan Carlson stopped all 10 shots he faced in relief for the win, while Jackson Howell made 41 saves for Embrun. Arnprior moves to 3-3-0-0, while Embrun falls to 1-6-2-2.
Glengarry 6, Athens 3
Glengarry struck early and often to defeat Athens 6-3 at home. The Brigade scored four times in the opening period, with goals from Derek Larocque (two), Matheason Cameron, and Hayden Mader to build a commanding lead. Athens pushed back with goals from Jaxon Viau and Cohen Merkley to keep it close after 20 minutes.
The second period was scoreless, but Athens got within one early in the third thanks to Cam McNulty. Glengarry quickly responded with goals from Liam Gray and Kaden Myre — the latter into an empty net — to secure the win.
Larocque led the way with a pair of goals, while Myre and Lavigne each chipped in multiple points. Parker Sauve made 26 saves for the victory. Glengarry improves to 7-2-1-0, while Athens drops to 3-4-4-0.
Ottawa 7, Winchester 2
The Ottawa Jr. Canadians continued their strong season with a dominant 7-2 win over Winchester. Ottawa struck twice late in the first period with goals from Dax Mckinnon and Mattias Côté before the Hawks answered on the power play through Daniel McDowell.
Ryan Ross tied the game early in the second for Winchester, but Ottawa took control shortly after. Mckinnon’s second of the night, followed by goals from Mathias Prud’homme-Foster and Simon Picard, gave the Canadians a commanding 5-2 lead after 40 minutes. Côté added another in the third, and Ryan Daze capped the scoring.
Côté finished with two goals and three assists, while Mckinnon added a pair of tallies. Jacob Perreault notched four assists in the win. Jackson Curran turned aside 38 shots for Ottawa, while Jimmy Boyd faced 51 shots for Winchester. Ottawa improves to 9-1-0-0, while Winchester falls to 2-8-0-0.
