PLAYOFF RECAP | Vikings win big at home to open 2020 wild card series

Casselman, ON – The 2020 CCHL2 playoffs officially have kicked off with Game one of the Martin Division Wild Card series at the J.R Brisson Complex on Sunday night, with the hometown Casselman Vikings grabbing an early series lead scoring a 4-1 win over the visiting Winchester Hawks.

Mathieu Talbot guided the Vikings to the 4-1 win with 3 assists in the contest. Shawn Patterson was the only other Viking with a multi-point effort with a goal and an assist.

Frederick Gagnier and Alexandre Charlebois gave the Vikings an early 2-0 lead after the opening 20 before Shawn Patterson made it 3-0 over 5 minutes into the second.

Marco Haw cut the deficit to two goals getting the Hawks on the board seven minutes into the second, but the Vikings quickly restored their three-goal lead courtesy of Francois Drouin scoring five seconds after the Hawks made the game 3-1.

Both teams went 1-for-4 on the powerplay, while the Vikings outshot the Hawks 30-29 setting up game two in Winchester on Wednesday night.
