Recap | Casselman Vikings claim fifth straight league title

Ottawa, ON – For the fifth straight season, the Casselman Vikings are league champions, defeating the Carleton Place Jr Canadians 5-3 on Thursday evening to be crowned 2018 Barkley Cup champions.

Carter Malette had the game-winner with under five minutes to play after redirecting the puck off his face and past Carleton Place net-minder Jacob Lavergne.

Carleton Place had fought back from down 3-0 in the third period, before Malette put Casselman ahead for good.

Brendan Doherty, Jason Cossette, Ethan Wensink, and Sean David also tallied goals for the Vikings, while goaltender Nicholas Campbell finished with 20 saves.

Aiden Parnell, Ryland Mosley, and Cameron Patton had the goals for Carleton Place, while Lavergne finished with 26 saves.

The 2017-18 championship is now the latest of five straight titles for the Vikings (13-14 Vs Ottawa West), (14-15 Vs Stittsville), (15-16 Vs Perth), (16-17 Vs Richmond), and now (17-18 Vs Carleton Place). Safe to say if we didn’t already, we definitely have a junior hockey dynasty competing in the CCHL2.
