Ottawa, Ontario – Marc Franche has been named the new EOJHL Commissioner for the upcoming 2021-22 season. Matthew Courvrette was named Interim Commissioner back in  December 2020 after Sean Marcellus stepped down.

Franche has been a coach in the CCHL for so many years including being the Cumberland Grads assistant coach from 2011-2015 and was the Grads HEO Midget AAA coach back in 2015-16 season. He once became assistant GM with the Grads for the 2015-16 season. Franche was thrilled and excited to get the new position as EOJHL Commissioner.

“I am humbled and honoured by being named the next Commissioner of the EOJHL. This is the largest league in the area with a rich history with some franchises dating back to the 19:30s.”

Franche has been a player in the CCHL and then went on to coach for several years from Timbits hockey to the CCHL.

“I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Timbits to the CCHL and every level in between over the past 25 years. The experience I’ve accumulated over this time will serve me well as the Commissioner as it was taught me the value of hard work, setting objective for a common goal and the importance of having open lines of communications with all parties involved, said Franche on his coaching career.

It was a tough 2020-2021 season. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, teams were playing one team near home. Franche wants to make more positives for next season and make sure this league grows for years to come.

“I want to provide local players that just completed U18 hockey with a safe setting for them to continue their development path. Florida Panthers MacKenzie Weegar and NCAA UMass champion Jake Gaudet both played in the league showing that every player has their own development time table to get to the next level. We will enhance our social media presence and have our players be more actively involved with minor hockey teams.

Franche will be big asset to the EOJHL and will do a terrific job as the new EOJHL Commissioner.
