RELEASE | Matt Carr becomes Referee-in-Chief for the upcoming 2021-22 EOJHL Season

Ottawa, Ontario – The Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that Matt Carr will be the Referee-in-Chief for the 2021-22 season. Carr started his junior hockey career as an official back in 2007. During his time as an official, he has accomplish so much. When he started in 2007, he started off as a linemen and was selected to go to the 2008 Telus Cup and 2010 CIS National Championships on the lines. Carr became a referee in 2009 and was able to work the 2010 Mac’s Cup Invitational.

In 2018, Carr refereed Game 5 of the CCHL Bogart Cup Finals where Ottawa won 5-4 over Carleton Place to win the championship. Shortly after the 2018 CCHL season ended, he was selected to referee in the 2018 Fred Page cup, where Ottawa won the tournament. He gives credit to his grandmother because she was one that got Carr into officiating back in 2001. Along the way he achieved his level 5 Hockey Canada certification, and participated in two Programs of Excellence.

“I’m absolutely looking forward to getting back into the hockey world. It has been a couple years since I’ve skated, and I’ve missed the competition. Junior hockey opened so many doors and opportunities, and I’m fortunate to get the chance to give back, said Carr on his new position as Referee-in-Chief. Carr mentions about his goals and what he can bring during the upcoming season.

“I’m looking to ensure a smooth restart of competitive hockey. The last two years has brought about much change, and sports is apart of this. Bringing back a respectful place to develop officials and collaborate with the CCHL, U18 AAA, and NCJHL is a paramount importance.

EOJHL Commissioner Marc Franche is very thrilled and happy that Carr is part of the EOJHL as the Referee-in-Chief.

“Matt has extensive referring experience and widely respected as one of the top junior officials in the region. We as a league are very lucky to have him. I look forward to working with Matt to ensure our players and officials have a safe season.”

The EOJHL season is scheduled to start on September 30th where the Ottawa West Golden Knights host the Ottawa Jr Canadians.
