RELEASE | Week 10 Stars of the Week

Ottawa, Ontario – The Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League is proud to announces it’s week 10 stars of the week. The first star goes to Embrun Panthers forward Eric Skyba, second star is awarded to November’s goalie of the month Justin Lee of the Winchester Hawks and third star goes to Athens Aeros forward Andrew Sprague. Honorable Mention goes to goaltender Jason Van Weiren of the Alexandria Glens.

First Star: F Eric Skyba, Embrun Panthers (4G / 2A)

Skyba, 20, had an amazing week by collecting four goals and two assists in three games. On Dec 3rd, he got one assist against Char-Lan in a 4-2 win. Skyba then had two goals and one assist for three points against Winchester on Saturday Dec 4th and then had 1G/1A on Dec 5th against Richmond as he led his team to three big wins this season. Embrun is 16-6 in 22 games and is rolling on a seven game winning streak. The Chelsea, Quebec native has 14 goals and 13 assists in 22 games. He is in his final season on Junior hockey.

Second Star: G Justin Lee, Winchester Hawks (2 wins, 1 shutout, 0.50 GAA)

Lee, 20, has kept rolling ever since being awarded goalie of the month for November. He collected two wins against OJC and Casselman. On November 30th, he made 22 saves on 23 shots in a 4-1 win over Ottawa, but then had his best game of the season by shutting out Casselman in a 54 save performance. Winchester won 1-0 in a shootout over Casselman. The Ottawa, Ontario native is in his final season of junior hockey. He is 7-4 in 12 games, to go along with a 2.60 GAA / .938 SV%.

Third Star: F Andrew Sprague, Athens Aeros (3G / 3A)

Sprague, 19, collected three goals and three assists in two games. He collected 1G/2A on Dec 2nd against Westport and 2G/1A on Dec 5th against Perth. Sprague is on a four game point streak. The Kingston, Ontario native has 13 goals and 17 points in 20 games this season. He spent time with the Westport Rideaus in the 2020-21 developmental scrimmage season before making the move to Athens.

Honorable Mention: G Jason Van Wieren, Alexandria Glens (1-1, 2.50 GAA / .947 SV%)

Van Wieren, 17, had an impressive week in between the pipes. Despite losing to Ottawa West on Dec 2nd, he was fantastic in between the pipes by making 39 saves in his return to the lineup from injury. The next night was even more better. On Dec 3rd, Van Wieren made 50 saves on 51 shots against OJC to finish the week 1-1. The Orleans, Ontario native is 2-4 in six games, to go along with a 4.82 GAA / .885 SV% in his first season in the EOJHL.
