Ryan Whitehurst named CCHL2 Top Goaltender

Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 is proud to announce that Ottawa Canadians goalie, Ryan Whitehurst has been awarded the Top Goaltender Award for the 2017-2018 season.

Whitehurst, 18, has a 23-10-2 record for the season through 35 games played with the Canadians. He averaged a 2.53 GAA and posted a 0.917 SV%.

Ottawa Canadians Head Coach, Tasso Vasilas, spoke on Whitehurst’s play during the season.

“Whitey has been solid for us from the start of the season and the backbone of our success.” said Vasilas. “He has given us in many games a opportunity to compete when we have had a vanilla game where we probably shouldn’t have been in the game.  He makes saves that have you scratching your head wondering how did he make that save.”

Vasilas also spoke about his locker room attitude and how he interacts with teammates.

“His attitude is unreal. He is a very positive player who is also a great teammate.  Whether he gets the start or is backing up Oxbo he is always ready to do whatever it takes to get the W.”

When asked about the staff’s feelings on Whitehurst’s award, Vasilas responded with the following.

“Phil, Stewy and I all feel without the performace of Whitey this year we would not be in the position we are in.  Hats off to him for this great accomplishment given the talent in goal in the CCHL2 this year.  We in the CCHL2 have tremendous talent in goal and for Ryan to be selected says a lot about this accomplishment.”
