Sean James Named CCHL2 2019-20 Rookie of the Year

Ottawa, Ontario – The Central Canada Hockey League Tier 2 is proud to announced that Westport Rideaus ’02 born forward Sean James is the winner of the 2019-20 Rookie of the Year award.

James, 17, led all rookies in points (71), assists (42), Points Per Game (1.69) and ranked second among rookies in goals (29) while playing in 42 games this season. The Almonte, Ontario native had a total of 18 multi-point games, with three of them being hat tricks. He also collected three five-point games this season. He is currently on a a seven game point streak with one more game left in the regular season.

Westport Rideaus General Manager and Head Coach Michael ‘Bundy’ Seed is very proud of the effort from James this season and hopes to see him move up next season.

“I truly feel he is most deserving of this award and I am very pleased that he is being recognized by the league. He is a graduate of the U18 Smiths Falls Bears program and I am hopeful that he will take the next step to the Tier 1 club next season,” said Seed.

During James’s time with the U18 Bears, he had 24 goals, to go along with 31 assists and 55 points while playing in 45 games last year. James was a big impact on their playoff run with the U18 Bears last year as they went to the Semi-Finals and loss to the U18 Pembroke Lumber Kings in three games.

James is a Smiths Falls Bears prospect and played two games as a call up with the Tier 1 club this season. He didn’t collect any points during his two games. The Westport Rideaus (29-11-3) will play their final regular season game against the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians tomorrow night with the winner getting first place in the Richardson Division.
