Simon Yang Named EOJHL Academic Player of the Year for the Second Consecutive Year

 

OTTAWA, ON – The Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League (EOJHL) is proud to announce that Simon Yang of the Richmond Royals has been named the EOJHL Academic Player of the Year for the 2024-25 season. This marks an impressive achievement for Yang, as he secures the honour for the second year in a row.

A dedicated student-athlete, Simon Yang has been a standout player in the EOJHL for five seasons, with a career that began with the Whitewater Kings and continued with the Richmond Royals. Currently attending the University of Ottawa, Yang is pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science and has demonstrated exceptional academic excellence. Since the Fall of 2022, he has maintained a perfect 10.0 cumulative GPA, earning A+ grades in every course he has taken.

His academic accomplishments go beyond the classroom. Yang has been named to the Dean’s Honour List five times and has been awarded the University of Ottawa Merit Scholarship three times. He was also recently named an Undergraduate Research Case Competition Finalist in 2024, placing in the top 15% of teams, and earned a Certificate of Distinction for his efforts.

In addition to his academic and athletic achievements, Yang has also shown significant leadership within his community and at the University of Ottawa. He serves as the Vice-President of Equity and Finance for the uOttawa Science Students’ Association, representing over 4,600 undergraduate science students. As Co-President of uOttawa Sci-X, he plays an integral role in organizing events that connect students with career and education opportunities in STEM fields.

Off the ice, Simon is passionate about promoting hockey within the Chinese community. He has been involved in organizing and coaching at the Non-profit Ice Lightning Chinese Hockey Camp and the Tian Hockey Pro camp.
