Week 19 Stars of the Week

Ottawa, Ontario – The CCHL Tier 2 is proud to announce its Week 19 Stars of the Week. Goaltender Marco Latassa picks up the first star, who plays with the Embrun Panthers. Second star goes to Joseph Samson of the Char-Lan Rebels and third star goes to William Fitzsimmons of the Ottawa Jr. Canadians. Graham Robertson of the Alexandria Glens picks up Honorable Mention.

First Star: G Marco Latassa, Embrun Panthers (41 Saves + first career CCHL2 goal)

Latassa, 17, is in his first season in junior hockey. His start came on January 26th in an afternoon game against the Winchester Hawks. He made 41 saves on 43 shots in a 5-2 win. Six of his seven starts this season has come on the road. Latassa also picked up his first career CCHL2 goal into the empty net with 25 seconds left in the third period. The Oakville, Ontario native is 4-1-2, posting a 2.92 GAA / .926 SV% in seven starts.

Second Star: F Joseph Samson, Char-Lan Rebels (4 G / 4 A)

Samson, 19, collected eight points in three games this week. He leads his team to a 1-2 week with their only win coming against Brockville. He picked up a goal against Casselman on Thursday, then collected a hat trick in a 9-4 victory over Brockville. Samson picked five points on the night. He finished the week by adding two assists in the first 40 minutes of play against Richmond on Sunday afternoon. Samson is currently riding a three game point streak. The Cornwall, Ontario native has 18 goals, 25 assists, and 43 points in 31 games in his first full season in CCHL Tier 2. He played his first two seasons in CCHL Tier 1 with Cornwall (2017-18) and Kemptville (2018-19).

Third Star: F William Fitzsimmons, Ottawa Jr. Canadians (5 G)

Fitzsimmons, 17, has a monstrous week by netting five goals in three games. He scored against Embrun on Tuesday January 21st in a 4-3 shootout loss, but had a great performance in his next game. He netted his first career hat trick against Renfrew in a 4-1 victory on Friday night, then he ended the week off by extending his goal streak to three games by scoring once against Whitewater. He is riding on an 11 game point streak (11 G / 8 A). Fitzsimmons has nine goals in his last six games. The Ottawa, Ontario native has 14 goals, 18 assists and 32 points in 33 games in his first full season with OJC.

Honorable Mention: D Graham Robertson, Alexandria Glens (3 G)

Robertson, 17, started the season with the Char-Lan Rebels for five games, then he was traded to the Glens back in October. Robertson extended his two games on Friday January 24th by collecting his first career natural hat trick in a 4-1 win over the Whitewater Kings. During his point streak, he has four goals and two assists. The Maxville, Ontario native has ten goals and four assists in 31 total games in his first season in CCHL2.
