WEEKEND RECAP | Rideaus claim second straight Richardson Division title headlining weekend action

Ottawa, ON – The final weekend of the CCHL2 season featured four games on the schedule to wrap up the 2019-2020 regular season. The main storyline features the Westport Rideaus claiming their second straight Richardson Division title with a 9-3 beatdown of rival Carleton Place on Saturday.

Embrun 8, Richmond 1 (Friday)

The Panthers scored early, and often on route to a convincing win to end off their fantastic regular season. Panthers Captain Tristan Taillefer recorded his second hat-trick of the season to end the year on a seven-game point streak.

Cayden Martin, Nathan Brown, and Juno Gregoire also notched three-point efforts with a goal and two assists each. Riley Carisse, Jarrett Ladouceur, and Carter Peck also chipped in with a pair of assists. Oskar Mollot and Cameron McMillan had the other Panthers goals, as Cameron Mulholland had the lone Royals goal.

Marco Latassa made 21 stops for the victory while Darien Johnson stopped 42 of 50 Panther shots. The Panthers went 1-for-6 on the powerplay, while the Royals were 0-for-4.

Winchester 6, Char-Lan 2 (Friday)

Winchester used the momentum from five goals over the opening 40 minutes to propel themselves to a convincing home victory headlined by Captain Kyle Kuehni’s goal and three assist performance. Marco Haw tallied the first goal of the game and the last goal of the game in a three point game.

Kyle Flemming, Graeme Buffone, and Nathan Lassemba had the other Hawks goals while Cornwall Colts Midget AAA forward and Rebels call up Cuyler Molinaro and Lochlan MacDonald had the markers for the Rebels.

Lucas Deveries stopped 45 of 47 for his fifth win over his last six games to end the season. Top OHL goaltending prospect and another call up from the Cornwall Colts Midget AAA team Jackson Parsons made 24 saves on 27 shots in relief of Ceili Picard who was pulled after allowing three goals on 31 shots. The Hawks went 1-for-9 on the man advantage, while the Rebels were 0-for-2.

Westport 9, Carleton Place 3 (Saturday)

Kingston Frontenacs prospect Owen Watson lead the way for the Rideaus with a career high five points as the Westport Rideaus scored a 9-3 throbbing over the Carleton Place Jr. Canadians to secure the Richardson Division for the second straight season.

Carleton Place opened the scoring 55 seconds in courtesy of Michael Patchell, but Westport would pull away with the game with six consecutive goals. Sean James, Keagan Johnston, and Brock Boisclair tallied a goal and an assist while Ty Nicholson had two goals and two assists, on top of Anthony Ieradi’s two goal performance.

Carter Holmes and Ben Charbonneau had the other Canadians goals in the loss. Oshawa Generals prospect Patrick Leaver made 21 saves for the win, while Brody Bernard was yanked for giving up six goals on 27 shots and was replaced by Bradley Mitchell who stopped eight of 11 coming on in relief.

Westport was 2-for-3 on the powerplay, while Carleton Place went 1-for-2.

Ottawa 4, Athens 0 (Sunday)

The regular season schedule finale featured the Ottawa Jr. Canadians leap frogging the Embrun Panthers to finish 2nd in the Martin Division standings with a 4-0 win on home ice against the Athens Aeros. Will Fitzsimmons had the opening goal with under two minutes to play in the opening period to end the regular season with three goals and seven assists over a four game stretch to end the season.

George Daher, Justin Cox, and Alexandre Frechette had the other Canadians goals in the third period to complete the victory, while Maxime Piquette had two assists in the win. Conor Corrigan made 15 saves for his second shutout of the season.

Ross Furgiuele was peppered and made 45 saves on 49 Canadians shots. Ottawa was 1-for-3 on the powerplay, meanwhile Athens didn’t score on their only man power advantage.
