Weekend Recap | Six Games

Ottawa, Ontario – Six games were happening throughout the weekend. On Saturday, three games were happening at night while three more games happening in the afternoon on Sunday as the first half of the season wraps up before the Christmas break.

Ottawa 8, Athens 0 (Saturday)

It was a dominate second period as OJC scores six unanswered goals to blowout Athens. George Daher (1 G / 2 A) and Mitchell Sturegon (3 A) each tallied three-points, while Will Fitzsimmons scores twice. Ryan Whitehurst also makes 44 saves for his second shutout this season.

The Canadians finish the month of December by going 6-1. They sit in the second place in the league and Martin Division in the first half. Ottawa’s power play was also very successful by going 2-for-6.

Renfrew 3, Whitewater 2 (Saturday)

This game was very tight throughout the game as Renfrew comes up with a big win to snap their three game losing streak. Sam Kalwitter scores twice including the game winner early in the third. Ben Langill also collected a goal in that contest.

Mason Burkhart and Ryan Luckovitch score for Whitewater in another tough loss. Renfrew will play one more game of 2019, when they take on the Arnprior Packers this upcoming Friday night.

Richmond 7, Char-Lan 2 (Saturday)

It was one of the biggest match ups on Saturday with a big two points on the line as Richmond scores six unanswered goals between the start of the game until the end of the second. Adam Goodfellow collects a natural hat trick and his second hat trick of his CCHL2 career.

Patrick Yates and Declan Flanagan also got on the scoresheet by recording two assists. Josh Lacelle was excellent in between the pipes by making 30 saves on 32 shots. Richmond also went 2-for-7 on the man advantage. Ryan Grant tallies his first CCHL2 goal in a two-point game for Char-Lan. He plays for OHA Maroon in Midget AAA.

Richmond 4, Brockville 3 (Sunday)

It was the most character win of the season as Richmond was down 3-1 heading to the third, and were able to score three unanswered goals. Noah Diozeghy netted two goals including the game winner. TK Mwamba and Ethan Gauthier score in the Royals win their third straight game.

Tanner Waito, Tyler Toomey and Ryan Glazer all score for Brockville in the loss. Shots were 38-33 for Richmond. Richmond finishes the month of December by going 5-0-2 and are now 8-1-3 in their last 12 games.

Whitewater 7, Athens 3 (Sunday)

Quinn Vanhoof netted his third hat trick of the season in a four-goal performance. He also collected his first five-point game of the season. Jacob Montgomery and Jacob Victor were great on the back end by picking up three assists.

WIll Steer, Nick Cuddy and Brayden Dellaire also scored for Whitewater in their 7th win this season. Matthew Hudson, Nolan Brien and Reid Johnston all tallied one goal each for Athens. Shots were 32-24 in favour of Whitewater. It’s the first time since CCHL2 existed that Athens didn’t pick up a win in the first half.

Westport 7, Casselman 5 (Sunday)

After Casselman tied the game at two, Westport went on to score five unanswered goals between the last 3:12 in the second until the first half of the third period. Blake Kettyle and Ty Nicholson collects 1 G / 2 A, while Brock Boisclair and Anthony Ieradi had 1 G / 1 A.

Westport has won three consecutive games heading into the break. Charlebois (1 G / 2 A) and Huntley (3 A) each tally three-points in the Vikings fifth straight loss (0-4-1). Casselman did try to comeback after Ieradi picked up a Kneeing major penalty and a game misconduct but it fell short.

Cossette and Fournier also had 1 G / 1 A. Casselman did outshoot Westport 41-26.
