Ottawa, Ontario – The Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League is proud to announce that Embrun Panthers goaltender Aidan Foley has won the 2022-23 Academic Player of the Year Award.
Foley, 20, finished up his final season with Embrun and had a terrific year in the net. Throughout the regular season, he played in 25 games, went 17-7, 2.76 GAA / .916 SV%.
The Grenville-sur-la-rouge, QC native is currently enrolled in the two year Paramedic Program at Algonquin College. In his second year in the program, Foley has completed 50% of the required, 12 hour shift placement of 500 hours, riding in the ambulance where he fulfills all duties as a full time paramedic. For each ambulance call, Foley coordinates the crew members while assessing the patient’s vital signs selecting the best destination, administering medication and treatment for the patients.
Each semester, each class requires 70% to pass the class, 80% for lab, and if you fail any class you are not allowed to proceed to the next level. Throughout the two years, Foley has achieved the Deans’ list.
While Foley completes all the duties as a paramedic on the road, he continues with all classes full of assignments and tests. Outside of class, Foley is required to spend time in the lab for extra practice on skills and scenarios with his peers.
Although the paramedic program is a real grind, Foley feels hockey has motivates him to get his work done on time so he can reward himself with the joys of the game. He is one of the top goalies in the league.
Throughout the playoffs, he appeared in nine games, was 4-2-3, to go along with a 2.61 GAA / .932 SV%. Congratulations to Aidan Foley won his accomplishments in the EOJHL this season and in school.
