CCHL2 Power Rankings Week 18 | By: Mason Detre
- Ottawa Canadians (32-2-1) | Last week: 1 | Results: 5-0W vs WIN, 5-2W at EMB | The Canadians continue to roll and have already clinched the playoffs. The focus is to win their first division title since 2012-13, when they won the EOJHL. Conor Corrigan has three shutouts in three games and Thomas Freel had a great week with 1 G / 2 A in two games.
- Casselman Vikings (26-6-1) | Last week: 2 | Results: 6-2W vs OW, 4-2W at WIN | Although the Vikings are still dealing with injuries they continue to win key games starting with Ottawa West and Friday night against Winchester. Joel Hunt (2 G / 3 A) and Yanick Dicaire (5 A) each led the way with five points this week.
3. Brockville Tikis (19-9-5) | Last week: 3 | Results: 3-0W vs ARN | There were a total of 120 PIM in their game against Arnprior. The Tikis did a good job getting under the opponent’s skin by forcing the Packers to take penalties. Glazer and Elliott each collect two points in the victory. They extend their winning streak to six games.
4. Ottawa West Golden Knights (20-10-2) | Last week: 4 | Results: 6-2L at CAS | The Golden Knights can’t find any luck when they face Casselman in their barn. Since the 2015-16 season, Ottawa West is 1-10 at the Jr Brisson Complex. With the loss on Thursday night, they’ve now lost four straight games in Casselman. It will be the start of a three game week starting Tuesday night.
5. Perth Blue Wings (18-10-4) | Last week: 5 | Results: 4-3OTL vs CHR | The Blue Wings were set to play three consecutive games between Friday-Sunday but it didn’t happen. Their only matchup was against Char-Lan and they couldn’t find a way to lead in that game. Games were postponed against Whitewater and Casselman for the second time.
6. Carleton Place Jr. Canadians (18-12-2) | Last week: 6 | Results: None | Their game against Athens was called off due to weather conditions. They’ll start a two game week against Arnprior and Whitewater.
7. Westport Rideaus (17-11-3) | Last week: 7 | Results: 7-5W vs WHT | The Rideaus’ hung onto their five goal lead against Whitewater in their only game this week. McHugh and Nicholson each tallied two goals and Ieradi scored three points.
8. Alexandria Glens (19-13-3) | Last week: 8 | Results: 9-1W vs RCH, 6-1W vs EMB | The Glens limit the opposition to two goals against this week, with games against Richmond and Embrun. They outscored the opposition 15-2. Mathieu Plant leads the way with 2 G / 4 A in a six point week and is a candidate for “Stars of the Week”. They’re only one point back of third in the Martin Division and have an important matchup against Ottawa West on Friday.
9. Renfrew Timberwolves (16-16-2) | Last week: 10 | Results: 6-1W vs ATH, 7-4W vs WHT | Renfrew’s game against Brockville was postponed and so mas Whitewater’s so they decided to play the Kings on Saturday. Their game against Brockville is now rescheduled for February 1st. Luka Marinic had a hat trick against Athens, then he collected 2 G / 2 A vs Whitewater in a seven-point week.
10. Char-Lan Rebels (15-16-3) | Last week: 11 | Results: 4-3OTW at PER | The Rebels ended a seven game losing streak by winning in OT and made a statement that they want to be in the playoffs. Sam Ferland ended the night with two goals and Brennan Markell had 1 G / 2 A. The next two games are very important when they take on Embrun and Richmond.
11. Arnprior Packers (16-15-3) | Last week: 9 | Results: 3-0L at ARN | The Packers only player that played very good this week was goaltender Cameron Scott by making 71 saves on 74 shots and improving his save percentage. Some of their players will have to face suspensions starting this week and now their playoff position is in jeopardy after no discipline against Brockville.
12. Athens Aeros (11-16-5) | Last week: 12 | Results: 6-1L at REN | The Aeros are still looking for their first victory in 2019. They’ve now lost five consecutive games and were playing short against Renfrew.
13. Winchester Hawks (11-20-4) | Last week: 13 | Results: 5-0L at OJC, 4-2L vs CAS | It was a tough week for Winchester after facing the top two teams in the league. At the end of they day, the Hawks competed very hard against these opponents. Graham Buffone led the way with 1 G / 1 A this week.
14. Whitewater Kings (9-17-6) | Last week: 14 | Results: 7-5L at WPR, 7-4L at REN | The Kings couldn’t find a way to get off to a good start in the first frame costing them to two losses this week. Jared Campitelli had three points 1 G / 2 A and Dylan Kuehl with 2 G / 2 A.
15. Embrun Panthers (11-20-5) | Last week: 15 | Results: 5-2L vs OJC, 6-1L at ALX | The Panthers are now on a four game losing streak. Once again, Embrun can’t find a way to score goals. They were outscored 3-to-11 this week.
16. Richmond Royals (9-24-1) | Last Week: 16 | Results: 9-1L at ALX | The Royals had a good start and then allowed nine unanswered goals against Alexandria. They still are looking for double digit wins.
